Mark Pawsey, MP for Rugby is keen to support this year’s Carers Week (13-19 June) and recognize the contribution made by those people in Rugby and throughout the UK who provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled.
The theme for Carers Week 2011 is ‘The True Face of Carers’, calling for greater recognition for the diverse range of people who have caring responsibilities.
Mark said: “I’m happy to lend my support to Carers Week. The work that carers carry out is vital for those who they care for. By doing so, carers provide an invaluable service to their dependants, families and the community.”
He continued: “I would like to pay tribute to those who sacrifice their time, money and health in order to care for a loved one. Together they save this country an incredible £119 billion every year. They deserve to be recognised for their contribution to both our local community and the wider society.”
He concluded: “I’m taking part in Carers Week to show my respect and appreciation for our carers, it’s important that they know that there are service out there to help them and that they don’t have to struggle alone.
Mark will attend a ‘Drop-In’ event at the offices of Guideposts at 44 Regent Street, Rugby on Friday 17th June, where carers will be invited to join them for a chat, some relaxation and refreshments from 11am – 2pm.
