Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed figures out today that highlight a fall in unemployment benefit claimants across the country, with particularly good figures for Warwickshire.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) today announced that the number of people unemployed fell between February and April by 88,000 – the fastest drop in unemployment for a decade.
Speaking after the figures were released, Mark said:
“I am delighted with the figures for Warwickshire, but particularly heartened by the figures for Rugby which show that local unemployment has fallen by an incredible 17% from last year.”
He continued:
“These longer-term figures are a clear sign that the local economy is recovering. Since I was elected last year, I have continued to stay in close contact with local business leaders and have listened to their experiences on the ground. I am sure that everyone will be heartened by these figures which clearly show that the government’s plans for the economy are working”.
