On Monday 2nd September, Rugby MP Mark Pawsey spoke in a House of Commons debate aimed at getting more people involved in cycling in the UK. Mark spoke about the cycle ways in Rugby and praised local communities for re-opening Rugby’s viaduct.
Speaking afterwards, Mark said:
“I was very glad to be able to speak in this important debate. Cycling has fantastic benefits to people’s health, the environment and to general well-being and it was right that Parliament raised awareness of this crucial issue”.
Mark continued:
“I was grateful to have a chance to tell fellow MPs about the good work Rugby is doing to improve cycle routes in our area and increase the number of journeys made by bike. In my speech I made reference to the fantastic cycle way that has just been opened on Rugby’s 173-year-old railway viaduct. It is a great initiative and one that I hope will attract more cyclists to our area”.
Mark concluded:
“Rugby’s regeneration strategy and the green travel plan that the Borough Council have adopted are both good news for cyclists. I know our local area is committed to seeing more people take journeys by bike. As it is good exercise and enjoyable at the same time I would encourage people who can to ‘get on their bikes!’”.
