Rugby MP Mark Pawsey makes an effort to focus on finance
Over the last 8 weeks, Mark Pawsey MP has had the opportunity to take part in an initiative organised by the Industry & Parliament Trust (IPT) named ‘An Introduction to Finance and the City’. The eight-session course was designed to help Parliamentarians and Lords become familiar with the workings of City Finance.
Sessions that Mark attended were on a variety of topics and were particularly focussed on helping to understand participation in the wholesale marketplace; recognition as to how occurrences in the markets fit in with business in Parliament; improving knowledge of financial statements and their implications; the impact that the Government has on the City and to examine relations between a typical corporate entity and the financial marketplace.
Mark was keen to gain a better understanding on finance matters and was happy to support the IPT’s programme.
After attending the last session, Mark said:
“Having run a small business for many years, I was interested to take part in this scheme as beforehand I had very little understanding of the way that the City works.”
He added:
“I gained a broad knowledge from the sessions, which I hope will prove useful in future. One of the sessions included a walk around the icons that make up the City of London including The Guildhall, Bank of England, London Metal Exchange and Lloyd's of London – this was a real highlight for me and was full of interesting points.”
Mark concluded:
“The final session focussed on the banking system, in particular the Independent Commission on Banking’s interim report where we had the opportunity to discuss the effects that this will have on the banking industry as a whole. Of course this is extremely topical in the current climate.”
Afterwards Mark was presented with a Certificate by the IPT Chairman of Trustees, Baroness Harris of Richmond DL.
