Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has written to Rugby Borough Council requesting that the period of consultation on the updated Local Plan is doubled from 6 weeks to 12 weeks.
The Council released its updated Local Plan this month with a 6 week period of consultation, where local residents can have their say on the proposals, beginning on Monday 26th September and running to Friday 11th November.
Mark commented:
“Rugby is already going to experience significant housing growth in the coming years primarily due to the development of the Radio Station Rugby site to the east of the borough where 6,200 new homes will be built.”
Mark continued:
“It is clear that the updated Local Plan will add significant new housing growth in our area. It is a substantial document in its own right but it also draws heavily upon other similarly lengthy and complex, inter-related documents. As such it is only right that local residents should be given more time to study in detail the intricacies of each piece of work and comment on them.”
Mark concluded:
“The Local Plan is the blueprint for how Rugby will grow and develop over the next 15 years and it is imperative that we get it right. For the sake of future generations, and to ensure that all new development is both sustainable and appropriate, I am calling for the Council to extend the consultation period to 12 weeks. I know that this is a view shared by many of my constituents who have been in touch with me in recent weeks on this issue.”
