Rugby MP Mark Pawsey yesterday praised Rugby Borough Council’s “ambitious proposals for new housing development”.
Speaking in the Commons, he took the opportunity to ask the Minister what steps the government is taking to ensure that planning authorities across the country follow Rugby’s lead and allocate land for new homes that are badly needed.
Housing Minister Grant Shapps responded by congratulating Rugby Council, stating that “authorities such as Rugby have led the way by being so keen to produce housing”.
Speaking after the debate Mark said:
“I have said several times how pleased I am that Rugby is leading the way in new house building. The government has recently announced the New Homes Bonus Scheme which will enable local authorities to retain more council tax to develop new infrastructure. With a desperate shortage of housing across the country, this can only be a good thing, particularly for places like Rugby that are keen to expand”.
Mark concluded:
“I am pleased that the Housing Minister has taken this opportunity to applaud Rugby Borough Council for its actions, and put on record just how important new development is to the town”.
