Rugby MP Mark Pawsey visited Coventry Speedway at Brandon on Friday 19th April to watch the Coventry Storm National League Team take on the Dudley Heathens at their first home match of the season.
Mark said: I watched Coventry race when I was a boy growing up in nearby Binley Woods, and have been to watch the speedway occasionally since, and so this was a great opportunity for me to see how the sport has evolved over the years. I was very impressed with how effectively organised the event was, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting and speaking with the riders and managers before the race.
Mark also met Club Owner and Promoter, Mick Horton, who gave Mark an insight into the running of a Speedway meeting. Mick said “The visit from Mark Pawsey MP to Coventry Speedway was very warmly welcomed. Mark’s interest in our youth development programme was greatly received and a great night watching our youngsters, the Coventry Storm, against Dudley was has by all. It is the first time we have entered a team in the National League of Speedway, and the support and encouragement we have received has been great. Our thanks to Mark for coming along, and maybe next time we can get him on a bike!”
Mark continued: It is excellent that we have such a great entertainment facility here for the people of Rugby, Coventry, and the surrounding area to enjoy, with both National League and Elite League Teams performing throughout the year.
Mark concluded: I thoroughly enjoyed watching both teams race, and it was an incredibly exciting and close meeting. Coventry Storm really pushed hard all the way till the end, narrowly missing out on the win by two points. I hope that they continue performing well throughout the season.
