On Monday 1st July Rugby MP Mark Pawsey took a constituents case to the House of Commons during questions to the Department for Work and Pensions. At a meeting with a constituent at one of his weekly surgeries, Mark learnt that the Child Support Agency did not have an email function and instead clients had to telephone in, sometimes having to be put on hold for considerable periods of time.
Speaking on the case, Mark said:
“I was shocked to hear about this from my constituent Louise Cawser. At a time when the Government is looking to make more Departments accessible electronically, it was a real surprise to hear Louise was not able to contact them by email”.
Mark continued:
“For many Rugby residents, email is the best form of communication as it is both quick and cheap. I am glad I had the opportunity to press the Minister on what is being done to help people like Louise and I welcome the Minister’s response that electronic communication will be available from later this year”.
Mark concluded:
“This is clearly an issue that affects many people because since speaking in the Commons on Monday I have had several emails from people across the UK saying they were in the same position as my constituent. I am grateful for the Minister’s response and am sure this will be good news for Rugby residents like Louise”.
