On Thursday 31st October, Mark Pawsey MP spoke in a highly publicised debate in the House of Commons on the controversial HS2 project. Mark pressed the case that HS2 could see a reduction in the rail service Rugby currently enjoys on the West Coast Mainline.
Speaking on the debate, Mark said:
“I was very glad to have the opportunity to speak in this crucial debate. I have had lots of emails and letters over the last few weeks ahead of the debate and I was glad I was able to share Rugby residents’ views toward the project with my colleagues”.
Mark commented:
“During the debate I pointed out that HS2 will have a negative impact on Rugby. We currently benefit from a fast and frequent service with both Virgin Trains and London Midland but if HS2 goes ahead this could be at risk”.
Mark concluded:
“Rugby is also a fantastic place to do business and our strong rail links help attract companies to our area. I voted against the Bill last Thursday as I do not believe HS2 is right for Rugby. I will continue to speak out against it in the coming months and years”.
