After his recent visit to Coventry Speedway in April to meet with the Coventry Storm National League Team, Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has offered to become Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Motorcycle Speedway, set up on 10th July with Members of Parliament from all over the country, showing the widespread popularity of this exciting sport.
Mark said:
“It was interesting to meet with the Chairman and representatives of the British Speedway Promoters Association to discuss the challenges facing the sport, as well as share my own experiences from visiting Brandon and watching the sport as a boy.”
Mark met with Alex Harkess, Chairman of the British Speedway Promoters Association (BSPA), George English, BSPA Management Committee member, as well as other speedway enthusiasts and several MPs, where Mark raised the question of the involvement of Sky Sports and Eurovision within the sport, and whether their promotion of the sport has been positive, or if it has had any negative side effects.
Mark continued:
“I welcomed the opportunity to meet with members of the BSPA and being able to represent my constituency within this All Party Parliamentary Group, as I know that Coventry Speedway is a very popular evening out for many, especially due to it being such a family-friendly sport.”
Mark concluded:
“I enjoyed partaking in the inaugural meeting of the APPG for Motorcycle Speedway, and I am looking forward to taking up my role as secretary to help promote this sport further.”
