On Tuesday 22nd October Rugby MP Mark Pawsey raised the critical issue of hospital meals during questions to the Secretary of State for Health. Mark pressed the Government for an update on how it can ensure patients are given a balanced meal.
Commenting after his question, Mark said:
“I am very glad to have had the opportunity to raise this very important issue on the floor of the House of Commons”.
Mark continued:
“There is proven evidence that a nutritional meal can be a real aid to the recovery of patients. However, the Campaign for Better Hospital Food has found that 82,000 hospital meals are thrown in the bin every single day. This is a desperately worrying statistic”.
Mark concluded:
“People in Rugby want to know that if they or their loved ones find themselves in hospital they will be looked after appropriately and I am glad the Government agrees with me on the significance of this issue. I was reassured by the Minister that the Government takes this issue very seriously and I look forward to seeing improvements in the amount of food wasted in hospitals over the coming months”.
