Mark Pawsey MP joined a number of other Conservative MPs in welcoming a delegation of Rwandan Parliamentarians. The delegation spent two days in Westminster, following on from the success of Project Umubano, which was the first was the first social action project in the developing world established by a political party.
Mark Pawsey MP was shadowed by Hon. Henriette Umulisa a Member of the Rwanda Parliament. He discussed with her the everyday work of an MP and his experiences of Project Umubano, which he attended in both 2008 and 2009.
Mark Pawsey MP said
“I was pleased to be able to meet with Henriette and discuss with her the similarities and differences between our two Government’s. Having visited Rwanda prior to being elected to represent Rugby, I felt that it was vital to be able to repay some of the hospitality that I was shown during my stay. The short time that I was able to spend with her confirmed to me that the Government must continue to support the developing world.”
Mark added
“Project Umubano, which means ‘friendship’ or ‘co-operation’ in Kinyarwandan, has already proved to be hugely successful. I believe that it is a great sign that as a party we have utilised our enormous range of talents, skills and experience to support the development efforts being made by the people of Rwanda and Sierra Leone. The project has also encouraged Rwandan adults to take part in a manual activity that benefits their community, which has helped develop Rwanda’s Big Society.”
