Mark’s experience in the industry sees him elected as Chairman of the APPG Packaging Group
Rugby MP, Mark Pawsey, has been elected Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Packaging. All Party Parliamentary Groups are made up of MPs from all different political parties who come together in order to promote particular industries and causes. The packaging industry itself employs 3% of the manufacturing workforce and has sales in excess of £10 billion.
Mark said:
“I am delighted to take on this new role. Before entering Parliament I had 25 years worth of experience in running a business in this industry based here in Rugby, and so I know what it is like to work in this area. The sector performs a valuable task that people often take for granted – it enable a huge variety of products to be received by consumers fit for purpose, ready for use. In the food sector effective packaging also reduces the amount of food waste.
Mark continued:
“Rugby benefits from having a strong member of the APPG in Ball Packaging Europe with a production facility at Glebe Farm Industrial Estate producing cans for the soft drink industry, who are a great example of a lean manufacturer within the packaging industry. This is an industry which employs 85,000 people and I hope to represent and promote the interests all those businesses involved in this sector as Chairman of this group”.
