Rugby MP asked the Energy Minister to condemn fraudulent companies selling energy cost-saving devices that don’t work
On Thursday 1st November, Rugby MP Mark Pawsey spoke during questions to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. Mark took the opportunity to raise, in Parliament, the story of a Rugby resident who had been scammed into paying £99 for an energy-saving device that has now been found to not work.
Speaking during questions, Mark said:
“A local resident has been scammed into paying £99 for a device that was claimed to save energy but, according to Warwickshire trading standards, is actually dangerous and will not save any money, Will the Minister join me in condemning companies that take advantage of consumers who are concerned about their energy costs?”
Speaking afterwards, Mark said:
“I am glad I was able to raise this important issue in Parliament. Fraudulent companies who think they can take advantage of people worried about energy costs must be dealt with severely.”
Mark concluded:
“I am happy that the Minister said in his response that he takes the matter very seriously and wants to be kept informed of the issue. I will do just that and hope the exposure of this scam means no one else will have to go through what one Rugby resident has had to”.
