Local MP Mark Pawsey gets to grips with Security Procedures for the upcoming Olympics
Rugby MP Mark Pawsey organised and led a group of MP’s on a visit to the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, on Tuesday 17th January. In Mark’s role as Chair of the All Party Group on Emergency Services, the event was set up to assess what measures the Olympic Organisers and Emergency Services are putting in place to ensure the whole site is kept secure during the Olympic games.
A particular focus of the visit was on the partnership between the Police, Ambulance and Fire Services. Airwave, the communications network bringing all three forces together, was on hand to answer MP’s questions and inform them on the situation.
Mark said:
“I was delighted to secure a visit to the Olympic Park as part of my role as Chair of the Emergency Services All Party Group. That we managed to secure such a good turnout from MPs highlights the importance of security at the Olympics.”
Mark continued:
“It is essential that security for the Olympics is water tight and I was very impressed with the steps all parties involved have taken to ensure this is the case. The focus on all emergency services sharing radio communications is a positive step and I have no doubt that it will greatly benefit the emergency services effectiveness at the Olympics.”
Mark concluded:
“I was also very pleased to see just how far the Olympic site has developed. I applaud all involved for their hard work in getting the completed areas of the site finished on budget and on time. I was also highly impressed by the legacy the organisers hope the games will leave. The whole exercise has the potential to be of great benefit to our country and economy in the long run.”
