Rugby’s Member of Parliament, Mark Pawsey has been appointed to one of the House of Common’s influential Select Committees. Following a vote among Conservative Members of Parliament, Mark will be taking his place on the Committee looking at the work of the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Much of the work of the House of Commons takes place in committees, which examine issues in detail, from government policy to proposed new laws. These committees consider policy issues, scrutinise the work and expenditure of the government, and examine proposals for primary and secondary legislation.
The select committee for Communities and Local Government is currently conducting an inquiry into the Government’s plans for localism and decentralisation of public services which includes the extent to which decentralisation will lead to more effective delivery of public services.
Commenting on his appointment, Mark said:
“I am delighted to have received the support of my fellow MPs in being appointed to the select committee considering this very important area of public service provision. As a former Councillor here in Rugby, I am very aware of the role played by Local Authorities and I am pleased that the Government will be providing more powers to both Counties and Districts in the forthcoming Localism Bill. I am a great believer that decisions affecting local issues are best taken by locally elected representatives.”
