Rugby MP Mark Pawsey met with Committee members of the Rugby Mosque Society recently to discuss the work the Committee does within the local community.
The Committee is made up of 12 members, each of whom is a volunteer, who each run different subcommittees on topics ranging from education, media and communication to fundraising.
The Mosque caters for children from all backgrounds and has classes for a variety of ages. The focus of the daily after school classes is how young people can become responsible citizens.
After the visit Mark said:
“I was delighted to visit the Rugby Mosque and to meet members of the Rugby Mosque Society. It was very pleasing to learn more about the good work the Society is doing within the local community, hosting regular educational and sporting events for men, women and children, fundraising for local and national charities, visiting hospital patients at Christmas and assisting local families unable to meet funeral costs for loved ones”
Dr Khalil Elbayouk, Chairman of the Rugby Mosque Society, said:
“We were pleased to meet Mark and Yousef during their visit to Rugby Mosque. We discussed the community services and initiatives taken by the Mosque Society to engage wider community particularly youth and its positive contributions.
“Mark was very encouraging and supporting about our initiatives which promotes community integration. We also discussed some of the issues faced by Rugby Mosque and Mark provided some valuable suggestions and also offered assistance, where feasible.
“Overall, the visit was highly productive and it was concluded that such communication is vital and will continue in the future as well.”
