Rugby MP Mark Pawsey met with the Business Minister, Michael Fallon, last week to discuss the future of government support to the cement industry. EU regulations have recently changed, putting Government policies to support the cement industry at risk, and possibly costing the industry hundreds of thousands of pounds annually. With a large Cemex plant in his constituency, Mark Pawsey MP has been lobbying Government to find ways of continuing to help the industry.
Mark said:
“I was pleased to meet the Minister and discuss the concerns of the cement industry. At our meeting he showed an understanding of the issues, and is very sympathetic to the anxieties of the industry. It was a productive meeting, and the minister will be working to ensure that a satisfactory arrangement is arrived at.”
Mark commented:
“With a large plant in Rugby making cement, I was keen to make that the Government fully understood the situation, and is working to help those in Rugby who work in the industry. I have exchanged letters with the Chancellor over the past month on this issue, and meeting with the Business Minster confirmed to me that the Government is taking this seriously.”
Mark concluded:
“In a week where we saw unemployment figures continue to fall, showing that the Government’s long-term economic planning is getting us out of recovery, it is important that this Government is pressing on towards more growth and more prosperity.”
