Local MP Mark Pawsey has joined forces with the Fire & Rescue Service and the Police to support a campaign seeking to prevent the sale of matches and lighters to youngsters in Rugby.
Mark said:
“There is no legal minimum age for purchasing matches and lighters but since October of 2007 it has been illegal for those under the age of 18 to purchase tobacco products.”
Mark continued:
“I do not see any reasonable justification for youngsters to be buying matches and lighters and fully support the Fire & Rescue Service’s ‘Strike Out’ campaign.”
Mark concluded:
“The campaign was first launched in 2009 and was highly successful so I would urge people to raise awareness of it and for local businesses and shops to do all they can to support it.”
