Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has spoken in the House of Commons, celebrating the recent improvements in the local economy and jobs market. He told the House that Rugby had experienced a 50% fall in unemployment since the election and pointed to local manufacturing success stories such as the Manufacturing Training Centre and Automotive Insulations. Mark also praised the Conservative-controlled local authority, which has overseen new commercial and housing development.
Mark said:
“MPs have been debating the Queen’s speech, which announced the Government’s plans for this final year until the election, and I was pleased tell the House how the Government’s long-term economic plan has had such a positive effect on the area so far. There is more to do, and I believe the measures announced by the Government will see us secure the recovery, and build a stronger economy for the future.”
Mark commented:
“Rugby is well placed at the centre of England, at the junction of many major road and rail connections. Under this Government, local businesses have managed to make the most of this opportunity, and we are recovering faster than most parts of the country. The fact that unemployment has fallen 50% since 2010, and by a third in the past year, is really good news for the area, and points to the fact that businesses are now thriving.”
Mark concluded:
“Manufacturing has always been at the heart of this area’s success and identity, and we are seeing now seeing many local manufacturing businesses grow into exciting and strong enterprises that are competitive not just in the region, but across the country. The Government’s long term economic plan has helped make this possible, and we will keep working to ensure things keep improving.”
