Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has today welcomed new statistics that show the number of people in work in the West Midlands has increased by 37,000 since 2010.
Welcoming the figures, Mark said:
“It’s great news that the number of people in work in the West Midlands has increased since the last General election. British business is rising to the challenge of creating jobs and we’re determined to ensure that all hardworking people benefit from the recovery. There is always more to do, but these figures are encouraging.”
Mark continued:
“After the last General Election the Government set about rebalancing the economy by creating growth in the Private Sector. It is achieving those goals. As well as creating 1.4 million new jobs in the Private Sector unemployment is also down in the UK and it is down in Rugby too.”
Mark concluded:
“Here is Rugby the figures are encouraging. Job Seeker’s Allowance claims are down and unemployment and long-term unemployment is also down. Significantly the number of people between the ages of 16 and 24 claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance fell by 21% in the last year. Locally we are benefiting from our central location and good transport links and are fortunate to have a very forward thinking business friendly Borough Council. It is clear that Rugby, and the country on the whole, is moving in the right direction but the Government is committed to achieving more.”
