Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey, has welcomed the new that Gamecock Barracks in Bramcote is to take on additional personnel in the coming years.
The Defence Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Michael Fallon MP, has announced A Better Defence Estate – a wide ranging review of the Defence Estate across the United Kingdom. The review will ensure that the Ministry of Defence makes the most efficient use of existing land and ties into the recent Strategic Defence and Security Review.
Under the proposals units from Chilwell Station, Chetwynd Barracks in Nottinghamshire, alongside troops from Queen Elizabeth Barracks and Towthorpe Lines in Yorkshire, will be relocated to Gamecock Barracks by 2021.
Mark commented:
“I was delighted to learn that Gamecock Barracks is to take on additional personnel as part of this review. I have had the pleasure of visiting the barracks at Bramcote on a number of occasions to meet the 30th Signal Regiment currently stationed there. Military personnel have played a strong role in the life of Bulkington in my constituency.”
Mark continued:
“The redeployment of troops from Nottingham and Yorkshire will help secure the future of the establishment. The local community are rightly proud of having the 30th Signal Regiment based at Bramcote and I know that they will give a warm welcome to new units that will be stationed there.”
Mark concluded:
“Ensuring the defence of the realm is one of the most important tasks facing Government. That is why I fully support the Government’s commitment to meet the NATO target of spending two per cent of GDP on defence. This will ensure spending, to ensure that our brave servicemen and women have the equipment that they need to keep our country safe.”
