Local MP Mark Pawsey was shown the future plans for investment at the Hospital of St Cross by senior members of the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust during a visit to Rugby's hospital.
During the visit, Mark joined Juliet Starkey, Manager of the Hospital of St Cross, Lincoln Dawkin, Director of Estates, and UHCW NHS Trust’s Chief Executive, Professor Andrew Hardy to see the ongoing investment in the local hospital. This included the work on the new sleep studies centre, which when complete will be a leading research centre for sleep related disorders.
The visit follows the recent announcement by UHCW NHS Trust of proposals to develop a new theatre suite at St Cross alongside a new mobile cardiac catheterisation lab, or ‘cath lab’, which will start to treat patients later this month. This is the first time this specialist heart treatment has been available in Rugby.
Speaking after the visit, Mark said:
“Having lived in Rugby with my family all my life, I know how valuable services at the Hospital of St Cross are to local residents. That is why I am delighted that the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is continuing to invest in Rugby’s local hospital and bring new services to our community.”
Mark continued:
“Not only do Rugby residents appreciate being seen locally, but I know that many patients from further afield appreciate coming to St Cross because of the great standard of care they receive. The planned investment by UHCW will allow more people to be seen at St Cross as well as providing modern theatres to ensure that we are able to provide the best possible treatment here in Rugby.”
Mark concluded:
“Ever since being elected as Rugby’s Member of Parliament, I have consistently argued that as our town grows, we will have a stronger case for more services at the Hospital of St Cross. It is clear from speaking to Professor Hardy, Juliet Starkey and Lincoln Dawkin that are keen to see the facilities at St Cross used to their full potential. During my visit it was very encouraging to see the work taking place to deliver the sleep studies research centre and other new services.”
Juliet Starkey, Manager of the Hospital of St Cross, said:
“We’re so excited about our new sleep studies unit. It will be one of only a handful of centres across the country offering inpatient studies into conditions like sleep apnoea. We were delighted to show Mark Pawsey the site of the new unit, as well as talking to him about the other new services we’re bringing to the Hospital of St Cross for people living in and around Rugby.”
