Although Rugby is more closely associated with the oval ball, the recent announcement of a £371,000 investment at Rugby Town Junior Football Club was praised in Parliament by Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey and the Leader of the House, the Rt. Hon. Chris Grayling MP.
Sport England have awarded the grant of National Lottery funding to develop a new floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch to get more people playing football in the community.
Responding to Mark, the Leader of the House, the Rt. Hon. Chris Grayling MP, praised grassroots investment in sport and noted that many of the rising stars of the future come through non-league and amateur clubs.
Speaking after Business Questions, Mark said:
“We can be very proud of the work done locally by Rugby Town Juniors to encourage grassroots engagement in sport for boys and girls of all ages and abilities. I was very pleased to be able to raise the investment by Sport England in Parliament and I know that this new pitch will go a great way towards getting even more people playing football.”
Mark continued:
“It is always a wonderful opportunity to visit Rugby Town Juniors, as these young players are the lifeblood of the next generation of sporting heroes. I am really pleased that Sport England have recognised the importance of investing in our upcoming talent and perhaps in the future we may see players from Rugby on the international stage.”
Liam Coulter, Chairman of Rugby Town Junior Football Club added:
“We at Rugby Town JFC are delighted to have been awarded this grant of £371,000 from Sport England to construct a FIFA 2 star 3G Astro Turf pitch at Kilsby Lane. The pitch will facilitate the clubs teams and events throughout the Borough of Rugby. Considering the application process in which Sport England received applications for over £61 million for a £9 million pot we have done exceptionally well. I would like to thank the project team at RTJFC who have worked extremely hard to make this project happen and have been rewarded for 2 years of persistence. It’s going to be a fantastic addition to the already great facilities at Kilsby Lane and we look forward to showing it off in August.”
