Mark Pawsey, local MP for Rugby, made a very special visit to Sainsbury’s Rugby on Friday 28th January.
The store recently had an extension, increasing the store’s original size from 46,000sq ft to over 70,000 sq ft. The store re-opened on Wednesday 10th November, and on Mark’s first visit to the store since the extension, he will see new features including a pizza counter, new pharmacy, and a new café.
During his visit, Mark will be meeting colleagues and finding out how the store supports local charities and the success of the Active Kids programme, which has helped to donate sports, cooking and gardening equipment to schools in Rugby. Active Kids has helped to donate 100 million pound’s worth of sports, cooking and gardening equipment to schools and community groups across the UK, since the initiative began in 2005.
Mark will also be hearing from colleagues about the store’s work so far with their local charity partner, the Air Ambulance. Colleagues have so far raised £7,500 through raffles, cake sales, and flower arrangements sold at the front of the store
The store will also be revealing their future plans to work with the local community. This will include discussing a future fundraising day to celebrate the store’s support for the Air Ambulance. Colleagues will also be discussing fundraising plans to support this year’s Red Nose Day, with fundraising to being in February.
Store manager Richard Young said: “Sainsbury’s prides itself on being a great place to work and we can’t wait to show Mark how active we are in the local community”.
Mark Pawsey MP added:
“I’m looking forward to visiting the new re-vamped Sainsbury’s and taking a look at what happens ‘behind the scenes’ at a busy supermarket. The new bigger store offers a great facility for the shoppers of Rugby. I am very keen to hear about their plans for fundraising in the Community, and hope to be able to offer my support when I am able to”.
