The importance of delivering the new Brownsover Surgery on time was discussed in Parliament last week when Rugby MP Mark Pawsey raised this matter during Health Questions.
This represented the first chance for MPs to question Ministers from the Department of Health. Mark used this opportunity to press the new Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health, Steve Brine MP, on the timeline set out by NHS England for the Brownsover Surgery.
The Minister promised to raise the matter with NHS England and gave assurances that NHS England would deliver the new surgery on schedule, by July 2018.
Speaking after Health Questions, Mark said:
“Local residents of Brownsover will rightly be concerned by the length of time it has taken to secure a new surgery following the closure of the previous facility. Since the announcement the contract would be withdrawn at the practice on Bow Fell I have taken steps to try and ensure that the people of Brownsover have the health provision they deserve by bringing together the parties involved.”
Mark continued:
“This has included working closely with local residents and members of the Brownsover Patient Action Group (BPAG) to secure meetings with both NHS England and with Ministers during the previous Parliament. I am grateful to the new Minister (Steven Brine MP) for his interest in this matter and I hope that he will support local residents should any further delays in the process arise.”
Mark concluded:
“Whilst I welcome that NHS England are on track with the present plan, which will see the new surgery occupied in July 2018, I am disappointed at how long it has taken to get to this stage. There is a clear need to get this surgery delivered on time to ensure that all residents get the health care they deserve. I will continue to work with the BPAG to represent our community and to hold NHS England to account for delivery of the new surgery.”
