Guide to social distancing

If you can't stay in your home and you're getting exercise by walking locally, queuing for a supermarket or doing something else you must keep at least 6 feet away from the next person. By doing this you  reduce your risk of getting infected, and reduce your risk of infecting others. 

  • Avoid contact with someone who is displaying symptoms of coronavirus (Covid-19). Symptoms include high temperature, a new and continuous cough. 
  • Avoid non-essential use of public transport - particularly busy services
  • Work from home, where possible - particularly if in a vulnerable group. Your employer should support you to do this.
  • Avoid gatherings - even with friends and family. Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media.
  • Use online or telephone services to contact your GP or other essential services. 

This government guide provides the latest information about social distancing, with particular advice for those who are at increased risk of severe illness - for example people over 70 years of age, those who are pregnant and those with certain underlying health conditions.
