A young Rugby couple’s delight at becoming first time homeowners thanks to the Governments Help to Buy scheme, has been highlighted by David Cameron at Prime Ministers Question Time, following a recent visit made to them by the town’s MP, Mark Pawsey.
After struggling to get on the housing ladder, Jack Gayton and Hannah Fountaine of Technology Drive, took full advantage of the successful scheme which is delivering new affordable homes and helping hardworking people to own their own home.
Local MP, Mark Pawsey said: “Across the Borough of Rugby, 510 new affordable homes have been delivered since 2010 and 108 people, including Jack and Hannah, have been able to buy their own home thanks to Help to Buy, giving them the opportunity to move into a good quality, affordable home and plan for the future.”
Responding to Mark’s question the Prime Minister, David Cameron, said: “The Help to Buy scheme is working to get people on to the housing ladder. It is enabling people who do not have rich parents, and who cannot afford a big deposit but can afford a mortgage, to go out and buy the flat or house that they want.”
Jack added: “Hannah and I were long term tenants in the rental sector and we both thought that it would be some years before we’d be able to actually own our own home in Rugby, so we were very keen to let Mark know that thanks to the Conservatives bringing in Help to Buy, we are now the proud owners of our own home.”
Mark went on to add: “Labour cut the number of social homes to rent and their Great Recession led to a collapse in housebuilding meaning thousands of families could not find a home they could afford. That’s why the Conservatives, as part of our long-term economic plan, took action to get Britain building again and launched Help to Buy so more people could get on the housing ladder.
