The news that a new site has been located for a Post Office branch in Bulkington has been welcomed by local MP Mark Pawsey.
The closure of the previous branch, located at the Co-Op on School Road, was announced in November 2015. Since this announcement was made Mark has been in close contact with residents and the Post Office in order to ensure that this vital service can be retained in the village.
The new Post Office Branch will be located at the SPAR store in the centre of Bulkington village and is due to open on Thursday 21st July 2016.
Mark commented:
“I am very pleased that an alternative site has been found for the Post Office in Bulkington. When I heard of the intention to close the Bulkington branch I immediately made clear the importance of their services, particularly for elderly residents, to the Post Office.”
Mark continued:
“Many Bulkington residents contacted me following the announcement of the closure of the Post Office. Earlier this year I presented a petition in Parliament, with the signatures of over 1,500 local residents, calling on the Post Office to retain services in Bulkington and Long Lawford. I have also raised the concerns of local people regarding Post Office closures with the Minister in Parliament, and I welcome that the Government recognises the value of Post Offices to residents.”
Mark concluded:
“The new Post Office counter will also provide a great opportunity to offer a modernised, accessible service for residents in Bulkington. I know from having organised a public meeting on this matter how much a good Post Office service matters to Bulkington residents and I hope that the new Post Office counter will give them that service.”
