Local MP Mark Pawsey spoke in the House of Commons welcoming statistics showing that youth unemployment in Rugby has fallen considerably quicker than the rest of the country. While welcoming that fact that youth unemployment has fallen from 7% to 5.2% across the country, Mark pointed out that youth unemployment in Rugby has fallen by more than half, from 7.6% to 3.1%
Speaking in the House of Commons last week, Mark said:
‘This is really good news for young people in Rugby, and the whole community. We are still recovering from the economic crisis, but these statistics show that we have moved a long way in the right direction. Along with encouraging statistics about unemployment generally, this shows that the Government’s long-term economic plan is working, mending the economy for today and strengthening it for tomorrow.’
Mark commented:
‘It is particularly pleasing that Rugby’s youth unemployment figures are improving so much quicker than the rest of the country. To see youth unemployment more than halved in just three and a half years is remarkable, and great credit must go to our local businesses, who are creating jobs.’
Mark concluded:
‘Getting young people into work is not just good for our economy, it also secures the future of the next generation by helping them to start earning, start saving, and become independent and fully engaged figures in their community.’
