The figures also show that there have been 2 million private sector jobs created since the last General Election and three-quarters of the rise in employment has been accounted for by full-time jobs.
In Rugby the number of people claiming out of work benefits has fallen by 524 over the last year and by 43 in the last month alone.
Youth unemployment and unemployment amongst people over the age of 50 has also fallen in the last year.
Speaking after the release of the encouraging figures Mark said:
“These figures are good news for Rugby and good news for the country but there is more to do.”
Mark continued:
“The Government came to power in 2010 fully committed to getting Britain back to work and that is exactly what it has done. But this is not a time for complacency and we have to stick to the long-term economic plan that has enabled our country to begin a recovery that didn’t seem possible after the great crash under the last Government.”
Mark concluded:
“Here in Rugby people want to work hard and get on and I, and the Government, are fully on their side. There is growing confidence in our local and national economies so we have to ensure that we stick to the path that we are on, the one that has led us on the road to recovery, and continue to provide the conditions for recovery and growth so that more people can find the security of a regular pay-packet.”
