Rugby and Bulkington MP hands out awards at annual event to children from Cawston Grange Primary School and Ashlawn School.
Local MP Mark Pawsey joined pupils from Cawston Primary School and Ashlawn School at the 14th annual Warwickshire Children’s University Graduation Ceremony at the University of Warwick recently to present awards to those pupils who had achieved over 100 hours of extra-curricular learning through the Children’s University.
The Children’s University is an international, critically acclaimed, extra-curricular programme which aims to promote social mobility by taking learning outside the classroom. It encourages 7-14 year olds to ‘try something new’ and at the heart of the programme’s ambition is to raise aspirations, boost achievement and foster a love of learning for all children so they can make the most of their abilities and interests, regardless of the background in to which they were born.
Speaking after the event Mark said:
“I was delighted to join pupils from Cawston Primary and Ashlawn School at the 14th annual Warwickshire Children’s University Graduation Ceremony at the University of Warwick and to recognise their incredible achievements outside of their usual school hours.”
Mark continued:
“Every year the event goes from strength to strength and from speaking with local teachers and pupils it was clear how much they value the programme and how it fosters a great love of learning outside of the classroom.”
Mark concluded:
“The students who graduated this year should be incredibly proud of their achievements and I hope many more local youngsters and schools participate in next year’s programme.”
