Mark Pawsey, MP for Rugby and Bulkington, has convened a number of meetings between the local authorities, representatives of the community and businesses based in Central Park Drive to discuss the installation of defensive measures on the road. This action is necessary to prevent unauthorised traveller sites from being established on Central Park Drive, which has caused disruption for the local community and is now a concern for parents of the pupils at Rugby Free Primary School.
After the meetings, Mark said:
“Over recent weeks many local residents have contacted me to express their great concerns over the repeated incursions on to Central Park drive by members of the travelling community. This has been an ongoing issue for a number of years and I have been working hard with local businesses and councillors to find a permanent solution to this ever increasing problem. However, the recent opening of Rugby Free Primary School on Central Park Drive has made the need for urgent action to prevent these incursions even more pressing.”
Mark continued:
Over the last fifteen months I have convened four meetings on this issue with the affected businesses, representatives from the local authorities and elected councillors attending. At these meetings a decision was made to explore the possibility of installing permanent defensive measures on both sides of Central Park Drive and agreement has been reached, subject to the necessary funds being made available.”
Mark concluded:
“The most recent meeting on this matter was held on Thursday 8th October and I am now awaiting final confirmation of our ability to move forward with the installation. I am advised that this information will be made available by Friday 16th October at which point I will update local residents, parents of pupils at Rugby Free Primary School and affected businesses.”
