Local MP Mark Pawsey attended the launch of the 200th superfast broadband cabinet in Lawford Heath, Rugby. Mark met with representatives of BT and Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Superfast Broadband (CSW), as well as local councillors for Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council. These organisations who are responsible for delivering the rollout of superfast broadband across Warwickshire.
Speaking at the event, Mark said:
“The delivery of superfast broadband across the UK has formed a key part of the Conservative’s long-term economic plan. The benefits of high quality internet are vital for our homes and businesses in today’s world. That is why when we came into office in 2010, we chose to invest in delivering superfast broadband. This is allowing our businesses, particularly small businesses which are sometimes run by entrepreneurs from home, to compete and grow. By supporting these business owners, we will help encourage these businesses to grow and to help the economy to recover.”
After the event, Mark commented:
“Under the national programme, we have got 3 million more homes and business connected to super-fast broadband and here in the West Midlands, 220,624 properties have benefited. Here in Rugby, 82% of the constituency already enjoys superfast broadband. This cabinet will continue to extend this coverage to the residents of Lawford Heath and I hope that we will continue to increase our coverage over the coming years.”
Mark concluded:
“Thanks to the partnership with BT, who have provided a further £129 million in funding thanks to the initial success of the scheme, we are on course to achieve 90% national coverage by the end of 2015 and 95% coverage by 2017.”
