Following calls and letters from concerned local residents Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has held discussions about the future of Speedway in the area both in Rugby and in Westminster.
Concerns have been raised following news that the present owners of the Speedway site in Brandon have sold it to a property developer.
Having grown up very near to the stadium Mark has been a supporter of the sport since his childhood and is also the Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Speedway which he was instrumental in establishing last year.
Mark said:
“A number of my constituents have been in contact with me recently concerned about the future of the Speedway track at Brandon following media reports that the site has been sold to a property developer.”
Mark commented:
“Although I am assured that Speedway will continue at Brandon for at least three years I am working hard to find a permanent solution to this problem so this much loved sport can remain in my constituency beyond that period. I will continue to meet with representatives from local councils and other stakeholders on this issue and I hope that together we can find a solution as quickly as possible.”
Mark concluded:
“It was essential to bring this matter to the attention of my Parliamentary colleagues on the APPG on Speedway at the group’s last meeting in Westminster. Similar threats have been posed to other venues in the country so it is vital to work closely with other MPs and use the benefit of their experiences, in my work to defend the future of Speedway in my constituency.”
