Rugby & Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey recently attended the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Parliamentary Reception.
On Tuesday, June 30th, local MP Mark Pawsey attended a reception in the Houses of Parliament hosted by the Holocaust Educational Trust, to honour Holocaust survivors and Ambassadors for the Trust. The Holocaust Educational Trust educates about and raises awareness of the Holocaust in schools, colleges and communities throughout the UK, including in Rugby and Bulkington.
At the event, Mark pledged to support the work of the Trust with a special message about the importance of Holocaust education.
Mark said:
“Remembering the events of the Holocaust and honouring those who survived is something that we should all do. The Trust’s work in ensuring that the next generation understand the importance of the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance cannot be overstated. In this 70th year since the end of the Holocaust, it is more vital than ever that we never forget the terrible events of the Holocaust, in which six million people were murdered by the Nazis. I am delighted to support the fantastic work that the Trust carries out.”
Mark continued:
“The Holocaust, and other genocides need to be remembered and I am very happy to be able to support the work the Holocaust Educational Trust does. I have visited both Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland and the sites of the Rwandan genocide as part of the Social Action Project Umubano. What struck me from my visits to Rwanda is just how far the country has come in healing the wounds caused by the genocide nearly 20 years ago.”
Mark concluded:
“I visited Auschwitz in 2013 with a group from Rugby High School and I know both they and I found the whole experience incredibly informative and moving. It is vital to increase awareness of previous genocides in the hope that such atrocities never happen again.”
