Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has written to the Chief Executive of the Heart of England Co-Operative Society, Ali Kurji, calling upon the organisation to meet with him and the Leader of Rugby Borough Council to discuss the future of the Oakfield Recreation Ground.
The recreation ground is owned by the Co-Op but has been leased to Rugby Borough Council for 30 years. The Co-Op is now exploring the possibility of developing the land and at a recent public meeting many local residents expressed their concerns at the potential proposals.
Mark said:
“Oakfield Recreation Ground is an invaluable community asset and the local community rightly want to ensure that it remains available in its present form to residents for many years to come.”
Mark continued:
“It is disappointing that the Co-Op is yet to have responded to requests to meet with Rugby Borough Council and I have today written to the Chief Executive of the Heart of England Co-Operative Society requesting that he meets with myself and the Leader of the Council to discuss the future of the recreation ground.”
Mark concluded:
“Oakfield needs to be protected and I will do all I can to ensure that it is.”
