Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey highlighted Warwickshire’s success in being named 6th in “Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2016” list in the House of Commons last week.
The list highlights the best places to visit this summer, and lists Warwickshire’s key attractions including Warwick Castle, Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary celebrations this year and Rugby as the birthplace of rugby football.
Speaking in the Chamber of the House of Commons, Mark highlighted how tourism stimulates local economies in questions to the Deputy Leader of the House, Dr Theresa Coffey MP.
In her response, Dr Coffey spoke about Warwickshire’s many notable attractions visit and the county’s unique connection to the sport of rugby.
Mark commented:
“It is great news for Rugby that Warwickshire has ranked so highly in the Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe list.”
Mark continued:
“Thanks to the Rugby World Cup last year, and the success we have in attracting visitors to our town, I am confident that we can build on this to really put Rugby on the map. With the “World Rugby Hall of Fame,” coming to the town later this year there are even more reasons to visit Rugby.”
Mark concluded:
“Warwickshire has a rich cultural history and it is great that this has been recognised by Lonely Planet. Tourism is a great way to stimulate the local economy and I hope that Rugby and Warwickshire can make the most of this opportunity.”
