This week local MP Mark Pawsey urgently contacted the Post Office after reports that the Bulkington village branch was to close.
The Co-Operative Group has made the decision to cease operating the present Post Office branch located within their local village food store. The date of closure is still to be finalised.
After urgent talks Mark secured a firm commitment from the Post Office to relocate the branch within Bulkington and alternative sites are now being assessed.
Mark said:
“I was very concerned when I was made aware of the planned closure of the Post Office in Bulkington. I immediately made enquiries with the Post Office to clarify the circumstances and to seek assurances that a local branch would be retained within the village.”
Mark continued:
“I have now received assurances that the Post Office are committed to maintaining a branch in Bulkington and that they will be seeking a new partner in the vicinity of the current School Street site.”
Mark concluded:
“I know from speaking to local residents just how much of a vital part of the community the Post Office is in Bulkington. I will continue to monitor the situation and work with the Post Office to help secure the relocation of the branch within the village.”
