Local MP Mark Pawsey has visited Technology Drive to see first-hand the issues that parking on the road is causing residents. Technology Drive, which is close to Rugby Station, is being used by commuters for parking and is now a major safety concern. Mark has been contacted by a number of concerned residents who are worried about the impact on local traffic that parking on the road is having.
Mark said:
“When I visited Technology Drive on Friday morning, I met with a dozen residents who are extremely concerned by the situation outside their homes. As someone who drives around Rugby frequently, I have seen the situation around Technology Drive getting steadily worse over the past two years. There is a shortage of parking spaces around Rugby Station and this is leading some commuters to park on Technology Drive and the surrounding roads.”
Mark continued:
“We now need to recognise that it has become a very dangerous situation for residents, commuters and students at Warwickshire College’s Rugby site. Due to parked vehicles, the road is extremely narrow and given the volume of traffic during a normal working day, there is a serious risk of a major accident.”
Mark concluded:
“I have written to both Warwickshire Country Council and Virgin Trains to draw their attention to the concerns of residents. What is needed is for better parking facilities to be delivered at the station and for there to be parking restrictions introduced on the road. It is vital that Warwickshire County Council and the Highways Agency takes action to address this situation before there is a serious accident.”
