Mark Pawsey, MP for Rugby and Bulkington, spoke in the House of Commons about the recruitment of new reservists for D Company 4 PARA, based in Edward Street, Rugby. 4 PARA is a National Battalion which has units across the UK, with companies based in Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle Upon Tyne and the Midlands.
Mark raised the success of new recruits during Defence Questions on Monday. Responding for the Government Julian Brazier MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence, welcomed the recent recruits and spoke of the privilege of visiting D Company last June.
D Company has in the last six months accepted twelve new recruits and are already beyond section strength, with a similar number being recruited at their sister location in Nottingham.
Mark said:
“I have had the honour of meeting members of our armed forces on a number of occasions and I was very pleased to hear about of the success D Company have had in attracting new recruits. I visited D Company last June alongside the Minister and was very pleased to see them re-inaugurated here in Rugby.”
Mark continued:
“One of the first priorities of any Government should be to ensure the security of its citizens and to do this, we need to support our armed forces. I welcome that the Government has committed to delivering this through the Strategic Defence and Security Review of last year.”
Mark concluded:
“It was a great pleasure to be able to meet both new reservists and veterans last year and I know that there is a lot of support for those who serve here in Rugby. I am very pleased that D Company has been able to take on these new recruits and I hope that they will be able to continue to grow in the future.”
