Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey last week met with local residents, relatives of the late Wilf Brown and representatives of Waterloo Housing Group for the official opening of Wilf Brown Close. The new development, on the site of Rugby’s old ambulance station, has been named in honour of Wilf Brown who was a dedicated member of the ambulance service. Also attending was Mrs Anne Brown, wife of Wilf Brown, who unveiled a plaque of dedication on the site. Wilf Brown Close consists of 29 affordable homes for both rental and shared ownership.
Mark said:
“In Rugby we are doing our bit to deliver new homes in our community. There has been a historic lack of new house building and it is an area which the Conservatives in Government has focused on improving. Since 2010, the Conservatives have delivered 200,000 affordable homes right across the country and the 29 new homes here in Wilf Brown Close add to the 510 other affordable houses that have already been built in Rugby.”
Mark continued:
“The first priority of any Government, whether locally or nationally, should be to deliver security and nothing is more important for a family’s security than having a home to live in. That is why in Government the Conservatives introduced Help to Buy, which has helped over 300 families right here in Rugby to achieve their dream of owning their own home.”
Mark concluded:
“Naming this road Wilf Brown Close is a great tribute to a local member of the community. It is right that we see the history and character of the town reflected in new development and regeneration, especially in places like this where the site holds so many important memories for the people of Rugby.”
