Rugby & Bulkington MP, Mark Pawsey, has welcomed statistics released from the Department of Health in the last week that show a substantial increase in clinical staff across England’s hospitals.
The Chancellor used his final Autumn Statement before the election to reaffirm the Conservative’s unwavering support for the NHS. On top of the year on year increases that the Coalition has been delivering there will be £2bn more for the NHS next year, and an extra £1bn to transform GP provision across the country over four years.
Within University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust there are now 189 more professional clinical staff including more doctors (not including locum doctors), nurses, midwives and health visiting staff than there were in 2010.
Speaking on the figures Mark said:
“Since becoming Rugby and Bulkington’s MP I have always supported this Government’s increased investment in our NHS. The extra money we have put into our NHS has found its way to clinical jobs on the front line and as a result we have more doctors, more nurses and more midwives working in our local hospitals than we did in 2010. This is even before the new announcements of billions of pounds of more support by the Chancellor.”
Mark added:
“In England we have seen more investment in the NHS, more frontline staff, and fewer managers. If you contrast this with the situation in Wales where Labour actually run the health service, the budget has been cut by 8%, A&E targets haven’t been met since 2008, and there is no Cancer Drugs Fund.”
Mark concluded:
“I am committed to ensuring local residents get the best care possible if they use local hospitals and that they continue to have an NHS we can all be proud of. I would like to thank all of our hardworking doctors, nurses, midwives and health staff for the incredible care and support they give. The NHS faces huge challenges with an ageing population, increasingly complex and expensive treatments and medicines and more people living with long term conditions, but this Government has shown that it is committed to meeting those challenges.”
